OUR PRINCIPLE REASON FOR BEING

The HomeSpun Group is an international, online *home* base where homemakers (and anyone involved in homemaking) can get together to share knowledge, ideas, plans, projects, experiences, thoughts and concerns regarding any home-related activity. The concept behind the HomeSpun Group is that it incorporates all home-related interests under one *roof* - similar to a real-life home situation, where there are a lot of different things going on at (usually :) the same time. Because homes are neither one-dimensional nor restricted to limited activity, our (online) domain strives to be as multifaceted as you are in your (real-life) domain.

OUR OBJECTIVE

To ensure your homelife is as fun, enjoyable and fulfilling as possible! :)

OUR MISSION

Knowledge through borderless collective and individual friendships - emphasizing fun, topical issues and the positive aspects and benefits of sharing information for the purpose of enriching the homelives of our members and visitors.

OUR VISION

To be recognized as a premium online community for homemakers and other persons involved in homemaking.

HOMESPUN PLACES AND HISTORIES

How do you find the HomeSpun Group online? Here's how!

  Group and Newsletter

The HomeSpun Newsletter Group was founded in the 1990's, and orginated at eGroups.com which was later bought out by Yahoo!®, who changed the name to Yahoo!® Groups. Prior to Yahoo!® taking over eGroups, Suzy Homemaker obtained HomeSpun from a family member, becoming the group owner. Suzy then revised HomeSpun's format, and implemented its new objectives and current features. Due to technical problems at Yahoo!® Groups, after the takeover of eGroups.com, Suzy moved the group to Topica.com at some point in the new millenium. HomeSpun was later moved back to Yahoo!® Groups on October 9, 2001, where it has remained until now.

HomeSpun was designed to give homemakers a *home* online; a place to make friends, share information and get help.

  Web Site

HomeSpunFun.com, the HomeSpun Group web site was launched on Oct 29, 2002. Due to the massive accumulation of content that was being generated via the HomeSpun Newsletter Group, it was decided that a web site was needed to organize all the Group's content and also to accomodate wanted and needed additional Group features not available at Yahoo!®.

HomeSpunFun.com has seen a few face-lifts and policy changes to date. We are finally - just now - getting around to converting all our paper and electronic document files to web pages for the site. Whoo HOO!! You can expect to see a lot of content being added to our site on a frequent basis, as our supply of content is constantly growing.

  Discussion Board

HomeSpun's Discussion Board was created on February 17, 2004 at Tickle.com. Originally open only to Yahoo!® HomeSpun Group members (who were also required to be Tickle members), it had in 2005 opened up to admit approved Tickle members.

The purpose of the Discussion Board was to give HomeSpun members the opportunity to discuss *homespun* topics with each other, in a self-sustaining environment. Members could post conversation topics to the Board that could be replied to by other members at their leisure.

Update 2008/09: Tickle.com, formerly eMode.com, closed all discussion boards and then shut down the site. This discussion board is no longer available.

  Suzy Homemaker's Blog

Suzy's Blog was "born" on August 25, 2005, which also happens to be Suzy's birthday! :) The blog is open to the public; however, to comment on blog entries you must join Yahoo!® 360°. It's fun and FREE!

Suzy's blog is an online personal journal that keeps everyone posted on what's happening: with Suzy, the groups, the web site and will also provide interesting tidbits and other news on items related to our HomeSpun Topics.

ABOUT SUZY

Hi everyone! I'm a Big City girl who moved out to the Country in late 1999 / early 2000, and shortly thereafter acquired the HomeSpun Group at Yahoo!® Groups, becoming the group owner. At that time, I lived in a raised bungalow that was surrounded by cows...and cows were readily available for viewing from every window, including the bathroom - so I called my house "Cow Central" (lol). From Fall 2001 to Fall 2006, I lived in what was previously an old schoolhouse Library, and used to have "goats down the road". No, not my goats! but I am a Goat (Chinese sign :). The goats were replaced with a friendly stallion, whom I called "horsie". (Original, huh? :) BTW, I still live in the country, and now I routinely hear many coyotes, wolves and raptors hunting through the night...so I guess I can call my new place "Coyote Howl". Hmm, although really, wolves 'howl' and coyotes 'yip'.

One of my main hobbies is gardening and I currently have numerous gardens, including perennial gardens, a container garden, an herb garden, a cut flower garden, and a vegetable garden. Someday, I would like to add a rose garden and a water garden. During the off-season growing months, I germinate seeds and cuttings indoors for planting out in spring....I also like to cook and bake, and even make homemade treats for my pets! I have a female German Shepherd Dog, a male and female tabby (cats), a female mini-Rex (rabbit), a male Netherland dwarf lop (rabbit) and a calico fantail goldfish. During the cold winter months, I feed our local nuthatches and woodpeckers.

In August, 2005, I received my (Ontario) Food Safety Training certification. I am currently studying Animal Health Care and have plans to further study Horticultural Science. I also hold a number of certificates in various areas of Office Administration, Computers, Human Resources, and Small Business.
